Romeo Montague
Romeo Montague

The son of Lord Montague. Falls in love with Juliet and marries her in secret, which is the beginning of the end.

Juliet Capulet
Juliet Capulet

Juliet is smart, bold, and done listening to her parents. She falls for Romeo and tries fakes her death to escape her situation, but it ends in the death of Romeo.

Mercuito
Mercutio

Romeo’s close friend who jokes around and doesn’t take things seriously, until things get real. He dies, then things go downhill.

Tybalt Capulet
Tybalt Capulet

Juliet’s cousin who’s always ready to fight. He hates the Montagues and kills Mercutio, which gets him killed by Romeo. His temper makes things way worse.

Friar Laurence
Friar Laurence

A priest who tries to help Romeo and Juliet be together in secret. His plans sound smart at first, but everything falls apart.

Nurse
Nurse

Juliet’s caretaker who’s like a second mom. She helps Juliet at first, but later backs off when things get serious.

Lord Capulet
Lord Capulet

Juliet’s father who wants full control over her future. Tries to force her to marry Paris without listening to what she wants. His pressure helps push her toward tragedy.

Lady Capulet
Lady Capulet

Juliet’s mom who mostly follows her husband’s lead. She supports the idea of Juliet marrying Paris and doesn’t really connect with her daughter.

Romeo’s dad, caught in a long feud with the Capulets. He doesn’t have a big role until the end, when he realizes what all the hate cost them.

Paris
Paris

A nobleman who wants to marry Juliet and thinks he’s doing the right thing. He doesn’t know about her and Romeo, and ends up dying at her tomb.

Benvolio Montague
Benvolio Montague

Romeo’s cousin who always tries to keep the peace. He means we

ll, but no one really listens to him. He disappears from the story once things get too serious.

Themes

Some themes that fit the story are presented below.

  1. Theme #1

    The Power of Love can be Amazing and Destructive

    The love between Romeo and Juliet is intense, but it blinds them from reality. The relationship between them gets stronger rapidly, which leads to many reckless choices, such as getting married after one day. The same love that brought them to marrige, also brought them to their end.

  2. Theme #2

    Hate Between Families Destroys Them

    The Montague and Capulet rivalry ruins everything. Romeo and Juliet don't hate each other they love each other. Unfortunately, the rivalry between the families brings everything to chaos, resulting in Mercuito and Paris getting killed.
